Course/Conference FAQ's

Q. Is the Physician Chart Auditor Designation Nationally Recognized?

    * Yes. The Physician Chart Auditor course is a nationally recognized certification class.

Q. What are the pre-requisites to take the PCA Certification Course?

    * There are no prerequisites for taking any course offered through PCA. We have students who hold many AAPC and AHIMA recognized credentials interested in enhancing their knowledge in coding and chart auditing. Many take the Physician Chart Auditor course as the next step, their next certification. We also have students looking to enter the industry and enhance their careers. These students successfully take our courses and learn basic coding and chart auditing skills without any prior industry knowledge. Many find employment opportunities or go on to take other certification courses.

Q. How much does it cost to take the courses?

    * Physician Chart Auditor Course: $1200.00/student
    * Physician Coding Specialist Course: $1200.00/student
    * Group discount and student referral rebates are available. Please call for more information.

Q. What supplies do I need to bring to class?

    * Just bring yourself and a pen. We will supply you with your course workbook and handout materials.
    * If you are enrolling in the Physician Coding Specialist (PCS) course, you may want to bring your CPT and ICD-9 books, if you have them. If you do not have these reference guides, don't worry, the instructor will have extras for you to borrow during the course.

Q. What is the exam pass rate?

    * 95% of students pass the exams on their first try. If a student does not pass the exam, all students can take advantage of our re-take option free of charge.

Q. How long is the examination?

    * 5 hr maximum time to finish the test

Q. How is the examination structured?

    * The exam is structured with component of multiple choice, True/False, and fill in the blank questions. On the Physician Chart Auditor course exam, students must also audit 5 charts correctly.

Q. What type of coding tools can I bring to the examination?

    * You can bring any and all helpful coding and chart auditing tools and books. All Physician Chart Auditor course exams are open book and open notes.

Q. How do I maintain my PCA certification?

    * Every 2 years students who have completed the Physician Chart Auditor and/or the Physician Coding Specialist course must re-certify. Students will receive a reminder email that it is time to recertify when it gets close to their expiration date. The re-certification fee is $50.00 and students must either complete the online PCA certification maintenance exam, submit at least 10 hours of instruction or teaching in a two year period, or submit 10 CEU credits through programs attended through AAPC, AHIMA, or HCCA that have been accrued during the two years.

Q. Do I receive a discount on a PCA Member if I have completed any of the courses offered by PCA?

    * Yes. If you have completed the Physician Chart Auditor (PCA) or Physician Coding Specialist (PCS) course, you are elligible to purchase a PCA Membership at a significantly discounted price. Normal yearly membership fees for non PCA/PCS students are $2500.00. PCA/PCS students can purchase the same PCA Membership access for only $350.00!!!
